Minor Holiday Appreciation Thread: The Overlooked Days That Deserve More Love

Not Christmas. Not Halloween. Not the big ones. The small, weird holidays. The ones where you wake up and go "oh yeah, it's [whatever] day" and then maybe buy yourself a little treat. Mine: Pi Day (March 14th). I don't even like math. But there's something beautiful about a whole day dedicated to an irrational number and also pie. It's a holiday for nerds and dessert enthusiasts and those groups overlap more than you'd think. I celebrate by eating a cheap grocery store pie and not sharing it with anyone.

i don't know if this helps but i noticed something with my hot glue gun. the smell (which i know is weird) and the precision of applying a tiny bead of glue to a miniature bookshelf β€” it forces my breathing to slow down. my body follows my hands. wonder if there's a parallel with whatever sensory input actually helps you feel safer, even if it seems unrelated.

national donut day. first friday of june. i don't know who declared it. i don't know what governing body authorizes donut holidays. but i respect their authority. i get a free donut every year and it's the most consistent joy in my life.

i once spent three hours painting tiny bricks on a shoebox wall and realized afterward that my jaw had unclenched for the first time in days. i wasn't trying to relax. i was just absorbed. the body stuff sometimes responds better to being tricked into calm than being asked to calm down directly.

talk like a pirate day (september 19). i work in an office and nobody else celebrates it but i spend the entire day typing emails like "arr, the quarterly report be due on the morrow" and watching my coworkers slowly lose their minds. it's my favorite day of the year.

april fools' day but specifically the day AFTER april fools'. april 2nd. the day when nobody is allowed to prank you anymore and you can trust the internet again. that's the real holiday. that's peace.
