Not "in bed" or "on the couch." The truly bizarre locations your exhausted body has decided were acceptable sleeping surfaces. Mine: Under a display table at a 24-hour diner at 4am. I was on a road trip, we'd been driving for 14 hours, and the booth was too bright. The space under the table was carpeted and dark and I just... crawled under there. I slept for an hour. The waitress didn't say anything when I crawled back out. I think she'd seen worse.

I write letters to my niece every Sunday. With a fountain pen, on good paper. It takes me about an hour. She's nine and she writes back in crayon. Neither of us is doing it 'right' and that's exactly the point. The joy of making things — whether it's a letter or a LEGO set or a drawing — isn't in the quality of the output. It's in the act of showing up.

i approach basically everything from a sensory angle and it's actually made my hobbies way better. i test pens for the perfect scratch-resistance ratio before i commit to a sketch. i have opinions about paper weight. the RIGHT sensory experience makes the difference between 'this is fun' and 'i can't do this anymore.' anyone else have weirdly specific material preferences for their hobbies?

in a bathtub with no water in it. fully clothed. i was 17 and it was finals week and the bathroom was the only room with a lock. i brought a pillow in there and just... slept in the tub. it was surprisingly comfortable. 10/10 would nap in a bathtub again.

on a pile of winter coats at a house party. everyone was being loud in the living room and i was tired so i found the coat room and made myself a little jacket nest. i slept for three hours. people thought i'd left. nope. just cozy in the coat pile.
