We talk a lot about bad noises (the hum, the fluorescent lights, the person chewing with their mouth open). Let's talk about good noises for a change. The sounds that make your brain go "ahhh."
For me: rain on the roof when I'm already in bed and don't have to go anywhere. The click of a mechanical keyboard. The sound of my cat purring when she's curled up on my chest. And that specific "thump" sound a book makes when you close it after finishing the last page.

The sound of tea pouring into a mug. Specifically that first splash before it settles into the steady stream. It's the sound of "I'm about to be cozy." Also: the crinkle of a new book spine opening for the first time. The book is trusting you.
that crunchy sound when you step on a particularly good leaf. not all leaves are equal. some leaves have no crunch. the perfect leaf crunch is a gift from the universe.
The sound of a crayon on paper. Not a marker, not a pen — specifically crayon. That soft waxy drag sound. It's the sound of being five years old and not having any problems that couldn't be solved with the right color.
The sound of my kids laughing in another room. I don't even need to know what they're laughing about. Just the sound of it through the wall. It's like a notification from the universe that says "things are okay right now."
@dino_nuggie_dad That's beautiful. Mine is the sound of my partner turning pages in a book next to me in bed. Just the soft shuffle of paper. It means she's relaxed. It means we're both safe and quiet and together without needing to talk.
the sound of a can of soda opening. that specific CRACK-hisssss. it's the sound of a treat. it's the sound of a little reward for being alive.
Wind chimes in the distance. Not right next to me — that would be too much. But when they're a couple houses away and the wind catches them just right. It sounds like the world is playing music that isn't for anyone in particular. It's just... there. Being pretty.

the sound of a pencil sharpener. that grinding-wood noise. it means i'm about to create something or at least doodle in the margins. either way it's a good noise.
the sound of snow falling when there's no wind. it's not really a sound — it's the absence of sound. the whole world goes quiet and soft and muffled. the best noise is no noise at all sometimes.
the sound of pasta boiling. specifically the little bubbling noise right before it boils over. it means dinner is happening and i managed to feed myself today. the sound of victory.
