What if we did a forum game night? (brainstorming thread)
Okay hear me out. We have enough people here who like board games, TTRPGs, and cozy gaming. What if we organized a virtual game night?
Not anything complicated. I'm thinking:
- A specific evening, maybe once a month
- Free online games so no one has to buy anything (Board Game Arena, Jackbox via someone's stream, or even just a Minecraft server)
- Completely optional, no pressure, drop in and out
- Text-only communication for accessibility and comfort
Idea is NOT competitive. It's parallel play for adults. We're all doing the same thing in the same space, chatting in text, no voice required, no pressure to be good at the game.
Would anyone be interested? What games would you want to play? What time zones are people in? Let's figure out if this is possible.
(No commitment. This is a brainstorming thread. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, we still had a nice conversation about games.)

I LOVE this idea. Board Game Arena is free and has a ton of games — Azul, Wingspan, 7 Wonders, Kingdomino. No one needs to install anything. Text-only communication + parallel play = the dream. I'm in Pacific time but flexible on weekends.
I would absolutely show up for this. Would also throw out Drawful 2 as an option — it's basically Pictionary but terrible and hilarious. You play on your phone and just need one person streaming the screen. Zero skill required.
my sketchbook is full of repeating patterns. spirals, cross-hatching, concentric circles. i draw them when i'm overwhelmed and it's like my hand is saying 'shhh, shhh, shhh' to my brain. repetitive motion is underrated. it's not boring — it's grounding.
PARALLEL PLAY FOR ADULTS. That's it. That's the phrase. I didn't know how to describe what I wanted from social interaction until right now. I'm in. Eastern time, evenings work best.
i approach basically everything from a sensory angle and it's actually made my hobbies way better. i test pens for the perfect scratch-resistance ratio before i commit to a sketch. i have opinions about paper weight. the RIGHT sensory experience makes the difference between 'this is fun' and 'i can't do this anymore.' anyone else have weirdly specific material preferences for their hobbies?
If anyone wants to do a collaborative worldbuilding session as part of this, I would be so there. 'The Quiet Year' is a map-drawing RPG that works perfectly over text. No combat, no stats, just drawing a map and telling the story of a community.
Okay the enthusiasm here is making me emotional. Parallel play for adults. A map-drawing RPG. Terrible Pictionary. I'm going to let this thread marinate for a week and then post a poll with specific date options. Stay tuned!
