Where do you put all the rage? (Safe somatic releases only)

I have so much rage. Not the explosive kind that hurts people β€” it's all internal, but it's THERE. Rage at the people who hurt me. Rage at the years I lost. Rage at the systems that failed. Rage at my own body for betraying me. I need safe ways to get it OUT. My current method is just... holding it, which makes my stomach hurt and my jaw ache and my shoulders feel like concrete. I know I need to release it physically, but the options I've seen online either feel too gentle (journaling isn't going to cut it when I want to scream) or too close to harmful old patterns. What are your safe, physical releases for pure, undiluted anger? The kind of thing you do when you need to HIT something, but you don't want to hurt yourself or anyone else?

i go to the thrift store, buy a stack of plates for like $3, go somewhere safe and smash them. wear goggles. bring a broom. it's the most cathartic thing i've ever done. also rage-cleaning. scrubbing the bathtub when i'm furious is better than therapy.

there's a thing that happens when i'm gluing tiny books at 2am β€” everything gets quiet. not the bad quiet, the peaceful quiet. and i think it's because my hands know what to do even when my brain doesn't. the hands have a plan. the hands don't need therapy. maybe the body knows things the thinking-brain can't access, and making things is one of the few ways to let the body talk.

Okay, here's my rage-release menu, tested and approved: - Cardboard shredding. Get a big box from the recycling, tear it into pieces with your bare hands. Rip, twist, shred. It's destructive and satisfying and the mess is easy to clean up. - Pillow screaming. Face-down into a thick pillow, scream as loud and long as you can. The pillow muffles it, and the physical act of screaming releases tension in your diaphragm and throat. - Ice smashing. Fill a pillowcase with ice cubes, take it outside, and slam it against concrete. It shatters loudly and satisfyingly and then melts into nothing. - Heavy deadlifts or pushing a wall β€” isometric holds where you push against something immovable as hard as you can until your muscles shake. - Stomping. Just stomping your feet. Hard. It sounds silly but it works. - Writing a letter you will NEVER send, in the angriest possible language, and then burning it. - Running sprints until your lungs burn. Sometimes the body just needs to MOVE.

the thing about building tiny worlds is that you're the god of them. everything is exactly where you put it. nothing happens without your permission. and i think that's why i do it β€” because the real world is so OUT of my control and the tiny one isn't. maybe that's not escapism. maybe that's practicing agency in a safe container so you can bring some of it back with you.

okay so i'm gonna share something vulnerable: i built the abandoned library during a really hard period and i didn't realize until months later that i was building a place where things that were left behind still had value. the books were still on the shelves. the chairs were still waiting. nothing was destroyed, just... waiting. and that was about me. i was the library. i just didn't know it yet.
