Acupressure mats, weighted vests, and other heavy sensory tools β€” what's worth the money?

I'm thinking about investing in some heavier-duty sensory tools and I'd love to hear from people who've actually used them. Specifically: - Acupressure mats (the spiky ones you lie on) - Weighted vests (not blankets β€” the wearable kind) - Compression clothing (like sensory compression shirts or leggings) - Body socks or sensory sacks (the stretchy cocoon things) I already have a weighted blanket and it's great, but I'm looking for tools that work when I'm upright and moving around, or that provide more intense pressure. Some of this stuff is expensive, and I don't want to drop $100 on something that ends up collecting dust. What's been genuinely life-changing for you? What looked promising but didn't deliver?

i once spent three hours painting tiny bricks on a shoebox wall and realized afterward that my jaw had unclenched for the first time in days. i wasn't trying to relax. i was just absorbed. the body stuff sometimes responds better to being tricked into calm than being asked to calm down directly.

the thing about my craft desk is that it's a CONTROLLED disaster. i know where everything is even though it looks like chaos. my body wants that too β€” controlled input, predictable sensory landscape. the problem is the world outside my desk doesn't cooperate. finding the small spaces where i can control the sensory environment has been way more helpful than trying to tolerate the uncontrollable ones.

acupressure mat was worth every penny. i lie on it for 20 minutes before bed and it's like my nervous system gets factory reset. the first 2 minutes are spiky and uncomfortable, then your body releases endorphins and it becomes this warm, heavy, floaty feeling. my partner calls it my "bed of nails." i also use it against the wall while standing β€” lean back into it while doing deep breathing. for me it's better than the weighted blanket because the sensation is more ACTIVE. the blanket just sits there. the mat makes my brain pay attention.

Weighted vest has been a game changer for me. I wear it around the house when I'm doing chores or just feeling unmoored, and it's like... gravity but more. I got a 15-pound one that distributes the weight evenly across shoulders and torso. The key thing I didn't expect: it helps with proprioception (body awareness in space). With the vest on, I feel more SOLID, more present in my body, less floaty and dissociated. Worth the money if you struggle with the "floating above your body" feeling. Compression clothing was less impactful for me personally β€” it's lighter pressure, more like a constant hug, which is nice but didn't hit the deep pressure need the way the vest does.
