Kids have the most unhinged belief systems and nobody talks about this enough. What's something you 100% believed as a child that is absolutely insane in retrospect?
Mine: I believed that if I didn't jump over the threshold when leaving a room, the floor would turn into lava and I would perish instantly. Not just during "the floor is lava" games. ALL THE TIME. For like three years. I was just casually parkouring through my own house believing my life depended on it.

I believed that the moon was following our car because it liked me specifically. I would wave at it through the window and say goodnight. Nobody corrected me. I was probably 8 when I figured out the moon is not, in fact, my personal celestial stalker.
i thought that if i swallowed a watermelon seed, a watermelon would grow in my stomach. i avoided watermelon for YEARS. i was a full adult before i realized that stomachs are not soil and do not have sunlight. the logic was nonexistent but the fear was real.
I write letters to my niece every Sunday. With a fountain pen, on good paper. It takes me about an hour. She's nine and she writes back in crayon. Neither of us is doing it 'right' and that's exactly the point. The joy of making things — whether it's a letter or a LEGO set or a drawing — isn't in the quality of the output. It's in the act of showing up.
my older brother told me that if i unscrewed my belly button my legs would fall off. i didn't question this. i just... accepted it. i protected my belly button with my LIFE for like four years.
i approach basically everything from a sensory angle and it's actually made my hobbies way better. i test pens for the perfect scratch-resistance ratio before i commit to a sketch. i have opinions about paper weight. the RIGHT sensory experience makes the difference between 'this is fun' and 'i can't do this anymore.' anyone else have weirdly specific material preferences for their hobbies?
i thought that the "no smoking" sign meant "no smoking cigarettes" and that cigarettes were these long white magical objects that adults sucked on for fun. i was terrified of them. i would hold my breath walking past anyone smoking. i thought the smoke would turn me into an adult instantly.
