My Dream Themed Restaurant: The Concept, The Menu, The Vibe
You've inherited a small restaurant space and you MUST make it themed. Not just "Italian" or "Mexican." A THEME. A gimmick. A vibe. What are you serving and what's the atmosphere?
Mine: "The Nap Cafe." Every table is a daybed. The lighting is dim and warm. The menu is exclusively comfort foods in small portions. The waitstaff speaks in soft voices and no one is allowed to ask you "how's everything?" more than once. You pay by the hour, not by the dish. It's not a restaurant. It's a sanctuary. There's a blanket library.

"The Library of Unfinished Books." Every table is surrounded by bookshelves full of books with bookmarks in them. The menu is coffee, tea, and pastries named after famous authors. The BrontΓ« Brioche. The Poe Pie. There's a "quiet floor" where talking is forbidden and a "discussion floor" where you're required to tell someone about the book you're currently reading. Free bookmark with every purchase.
Fountain pens taught me that pressure matters. Too much and the nib catches. Too little and nothing flows. It took me months to find the right balance. I think bodies work the same way β we push too hard or we give up entirely, and the right pressure point is somewhere in the middle, and the only way to find it is practice.
"Toast." it's just toast. every kind of toast. sourdough, rye, pumpernickel, brioche. every topping imaginable. avocado toast, cinnamon sugar toast, butter and jam toast, toast with a fried egg on top. the walls are a warm golden brown. the napkins are little squares of bread-shaped fabric. it's called Toast and the logo is just the word Toast in a toaster font. i've thought about this a lot.
so i'm a miniature builder and i've noticed that scale matters for my brain in a way i can't fully explain. when things are tiny, they're manageable. the world is too big and too loud most of the time but a 1:24 scale room is exactly the right size. maybe there's a version of that for body stuff β scaling down the input until it's digestible. one small sensory win at a time.
